Audie Brewton
September 14, 1944 - January 15, 2019

Audie Brewton of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 74. He was born to A.R. Brewton, Jr. and Madalyn (Pizzitola) Brewton in Houston, Texas. Audie graduated cum laude from John H. Reagan High School in Houston in January, 1963, and entered Texas A & M University as a member of the 15th Squadron, Corps of Cadets. After graduation in 1966, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army. He served on active duty until August, 1971, serving as an Infantry Unit Commander in Korea where he was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Audie was honorably discharged from the Army to continue his education. He entered the University of Houston where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Economics. Audie received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. He began his university teaching career in Kentucky and continued at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Later he became a tenured professor of economics at the University of Northeastern Illinois in Chicago, Illinois. After retirement in 2011, Audie moved to McKinney, Texas. He was welcomed there by his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Gene Whalen. Audie was confirmed into the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod where he was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. He especially enjoyed the Thursday men’s Bible group, the Tuesday seniors group, Men’s Sharpening, and the Seekers Small Group. Audie was also actively involved with the McKinney Senior Center Bridge and 42 groups, and he was an active member in the Better Investing Groups of Dallas, Texas.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Gene Whalen; nieces, Sharon Ellis and husband, Brian of Acworth, Georgia and Amy Ingvardsen and husband, John of Baytown, Texas; great nieces and nephews, Madalyn and Pace Ellis and Ada, Evan, and Wyatt Ingvardsen; and other loving cousins and family.

Audie was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2708 West Virginia Pkwy in Mc Kinney, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Audie will be laid to rest with his parents at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas, at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
