Tommy Ray Splittgerber passed away December 3, 2018, peacefully at home, less than a week before his 91st birthday. Tommy Ray Splittgerber

Tommy Ray Splittgerber passed away December 3, 2018 peacefully at home less than a week before his 91st birthday.

He was born on December 8, 1927 in Mason, Texas to William and Lillian Splittgerber. Tommy worked to excel in everything he did. In his time at Mason High School, he was class president, lettered 3 years each in football and basketball, and was the district champ in tennis his senior year.

After High School, Tommy attended Texas A&M University where he was in the Corps of Cadets. He was a yell leader his junior and senior years. Tommy represented the class of 1949 as class agent for 5 years.

Shortly after graduation from Texas A&M, Tommy entered the United States Army as a First Lieutenant, serving in the infantry. Tommy was sent to the Korean Conflict where he was a liaison to a South Korean unit and received a combat infantry badge for his service.

Following his service in the army, Tommy spent time in San Antonio selling Royal Typewriters, then in the home office in Hartford, CT as National Trainer of Royal Typewriter salesmen. Honolulu, Hawaii was his next destination, where he was a Royal Typewriter branch manager.

Tommy moved back to Mason where he managed People's Savings and Loan until he retired in 1992 at age 65.

Tommy loved acting. He performed in many live theater productions in San Antonio, New Braunfels, Hartford, and Honolulu. His first professional movie role was in Tora! Tora! Tora! He was a SAG Union member and was in 8 other movies, National, and Regional TV commercials.

Tommy's love for acting was matched by his love for playing bridge. He achieved life master at an early age and still played regularly with his local friends and in tournaments.

Tommy may have never married and had a family of his own, but he embraced so many in the community as family. He was a loyal Puncher football fan and still drove himself to games.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, sister Billie Lehmberg and husband Fritz, sister Evelyn (Nookie) Welch and husband Kenneth, and nephew Craig Welch. Tommy is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A year ago when asked his favorite memory, he said it was spending time with them.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at his home church, First United Methodist church of Mason. "He loved people."
