Roger Kyle Carter of El Campo,Texas, passed away on October 25, 2018. He was born November 28, 1932 in Navasota, Texas. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marjorie "Margie" Bunge Carter, his parents Etta Mansel Selk and Tom Selk, and brother Bill Selk. A 1950 graduate from ECHS, Roger joined the United States Marine Corps in January 1951. He proudly served 5 years, including overseas duty in Korea. He never stopped being a Marine.

After his military service, in 1955 Roger began his studies at the University of Texas. Roger graduated from Texas A&M University in 1960 as a degreed meteorologist. He began work for the National Weather Service after graduation and was assigned to the NASA space program as a Spaceflight Meteorologist. He traveled to several international locations to set up weather tracking stations for early space flights. After his retirement from NASA in 1988, Roger and Margie returned to El Campo where he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as both a Deacon and Elder.

Roger is survived by his dear daughter, Klare Ann Carter Glendinning and husband David of Plano, three granddaughters, Grace Glendinning, Marjorie "Molly" Glendinning, and Mattie Glendinning, who were the joy of his and Margie's life. He is survived by 2 sisters, Nell Selk Sullivan of San Antonio and his "baby sister" Linda Selk Fox of Umatilla, Florida. He is also survived by niece Patricia Hansen and nephews William “Bill” Hansen and wife Audrey, and Carl “Mike” Hansen III all of Tin Top; nephews Tom Fox and wife Shannan of Rome, Georgia, and Craig Fox and wife Kim of Eustis, Florida; nieces Debra Sullivan Spencer and husband Walter of Casa Grande, Arizona, Kathy Sullivan Letson and husband Tony of Gatesville, nephew Wayne Sullivan and wife Renee of Rockport, and nieces Susan Sullivan Hosack and husband Curtis, Brenda Sullivan and husband Larry Goings, and Sherrie Sullivan all of San Antonio; plus numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Roger was a character and entertained everyone who would listen with his stories of growing up in El Campo and of the time, in his words, growing up in the Marine Corps. He will be sorely missed by family and long-time friends.

The family will be receiving visitors Friday November 16th from 6-8 PM at the family home. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of El Campo with the Reverend Erin McGee officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation at www.toysfortots.org or in his memory to the First Presbyterian Church of El Campo.
