Tim Henderson
August 6, 1958 - November 2, 2018

On November 2nd of 2018 Tim Henderson left for his final plate meeting in the sky.

Tim worked the plate in game one making sure everyone played by his own ground rules. This game would be won in the sixtieth inning. Game time started on August 6, 1958 in Alexandria, LA. Tim spent the early innings in multiple towns loving life with his family and excelling in youth sports.

In the 18th inning, he finished his high school career at Lanier High School in Austin, TX. Class of 1976. He would go on to pitch at Lubbock Christian University and Concordia University before leaving the players locker room and moving to the umpire’s locker room across the hall. Henderson completed his Bachelor of Business Administration at Texas A&M University as a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1980. Tim was part of the Corp as a V1 Vulture. While in College Station his passion for umpiring would takeoff when, as a student, Tim would join the South West Conference in 1979.

In the bottom of the 22nd Tim moved back to Austin taking a job in the finance industry. After working for others a short while he began his own investment company Logic Financial LLC.

The next half of the game would be characterized by Tim’s love for community and others. The highlights from these innings spent included being a member of the Martini Foundation, a board member for the Austin Club, the founding Chairman of the Austin Society and many other charity activities. Though he was always the life of the party he was very humble and quiet in his philanthropy. He never wanted plaques or recognition; he simply wanted to make people happy and receive a simple “thank you”.

There were highlights and trials all through the innings to come but he worked with focus and fairness to ensure that he “Called’em as he Saw’em”. Tim welcomed many new members to his team and held them all in his heart as a part of his family.

Game one would include the loss of some of Tim’s legends including his grandparents Wesley and Reba Henderson of Waelder, TX; Beveridge and Mabel Huffman of Houston, TX; and his great friend and crewmate David Diehl of Taylor, TX.

Tim would go on to work many conference championships, regionals, super regionals and twice at Omaha in the College World Series. As well as working in the Independent Professional Leagues and many exhibitions that include international teams.

Tim’s lineup cards still include his parents C. Eugene and Patricia Henderson of Elgin, TX; Sister and Brother-in-law Kenneth and Kathy Kramer of Dale, TX and brother Bruce Dickey of Austin, TX. He also leaves his nieces and nephews Mitchell and Mackenzie Morgan of Canyon Lake, TX; James and Bailey Morgan of Andrews, TX. In the bullpen are his great-niece Georgia Morgan and great –nephew Case Morgan of Andrews, TX.

Tim’s roster is packed with the many friends and lives he touched through the years. Tim’s team looks to have a strong future that includes great prospects from the young umpires he invested his time and wisdom in developing for years to come.
As we close out the box score for game 1 it is agreed by all to have been a performance of integrity and excitement most cannot recall.

Now Henderson will retire to the bases for the rest of the series so that others can take their position behind the plate in running their games of life. He will be watching from the field with a huge grin and a heart full of pride making sure we keep’em in line while having a lot of fun.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either Seton Dell Medical Center at The University of Texas, www.futureofcare.supportseton.org, or to a Cancer Research of your choice. A Celebration of Life “Roast” of Tim Henderson will be held on Saturday, November 10th beginning at 11:00 am with full Bar-B-Que and the fixins’ at 12:20 at 219 Cricket Hollow Road, Dale, TX 78616.
