Donald P. Newton
January 19, 1937 - October 13, 2018

Donald P. Newton, age 81, entered into rest Saturday, October 13. 22018 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born January 19, 1937 in Clinton, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred Powell Newton and Carmen Marie Puckett Newton and daughter Anita O. Avila.

Don attended Texas A&M University and The University of North Texas. He served as a Marine. He was the founder and President of Border Opportunity Saver Systems, Director of the Bank and Trust, President of Parque Industrial Internacional de Acuña, served on the Del Rio Bridge Board, and most recently, served on the Economic Development Corporation for the City. He was also a former co-owner of the San Felipe Country Club.

Don had a a passion for life. He was an entrepreneur, a voracious reader, a wordsmith, a pilot, a racquetball player and a golfer. He literally played golf until the day he passed, taking with him one last relished victory over his favorite golfing buddy and son, Mark. He had a keen sense of humor and an appetite for life and its adventures. He was accomplishment driven and a master of multitasking. He was a sports enthusiast and loved his Dallas Cowboys. His favorite day of the year was his own birthday. He will be remembered by his buddies for his annual weekend long birthday celebrations. He will be remembered by his family for being the finest example of integrity who gave guidance and love to each of us.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, friend and business partner of 30 years, Oralia R. “Lala” Newton. Children; Anne Michell Newton, Mark Sheldon Newton, Marla Diane Newton, Patricia and Leo Martinez, Arnulfo Eli Ozuna. Also survived by his brother Phil and sister in law Mary Beth and their children Bret and Cassie. Grandchildren; Leigh D. Martinez, Laura P. Martinez, Leonel G. Martinez, Lauren Riley Newton and Ava Carmen Newton.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018, 5:00pm-9:00pm, Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Prayer Service officiated by Pastor Seca at 6:00pm.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2018, 10:00am, Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with Pastor Martin Seca.

Gentlemen with the honor of pallbearers; Antonio Rodriguez, Phillip Newton, Gillette Burns, Sid Cauthorn, Joe Elder and Leonel G. Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Musquiz, Sr., Bill Cauthorn, Lloyd Nichols, Bret Newton, Bill Gandy and Antonio Arocha.

Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
