There he taught his two sons, Arthur Wayne Noll and Russell Thomas Noll, the virtues of hard work and serving others, the love of the outdoors and raising livestock in the 4-H Club. During his time in the Boerne area, he was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, Texas A & M Alumni Association, Secretary of the Kendall County Fair Association, St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Junior Livestock Association. He spent many hours helping young people prepare their livestock for competitions.

In 1968 he was called into active duty for the Vietnam War as a senior advisor. He spent time in Ft. Polk, Louisiana and Ft.Bragg, N.C training for his tour to Vietnam. During his service in Vietnam he earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star with V (Valor) and the Purple Heart. He returned to the United States in August of 1970 and was stationed in Oklahoma City where he was an advisor to the 95th MTC in Oklahoma City. Noll received his promotion to Lt. Colonel and received further training at the Command and General Staff College in Ft. Levinworth, KS. He was promoted to full Colonel and Deputy Commander of the 95th MTC in Oklahoma City where he retired from the military in 1983.
