Dr. Donald Joe "Doc" Anderson, Sr.
September 21, 1933 - September 18, 2018

Dr. Donald J. Anderson Sr. (AKA “Doc”), age 84, of Denton, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018, in Denton, Texas. He was born September 21, 1933 in Lawton, Oklahoma to John Beamon Anderson and Alta Lee Dean Price. Don graduated from Texas A&M University in 1958 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Don was employed by Eli Lilly for 7 years, before opening his own veterinarian clinics in 1966 in Lewisville, Texas. Don was a pillar of thecommunity serving in multiple capacities,including becoming a member of the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce, elected to serve as the Lewisville Baseball Commissioner, City Councilman and Board of Director at Fort Worth Mortgage. Don was also honored with the establishment of The Don Anderson Junior Citizen Award, which was awarded to Lewisville High School seniors yearly. He has continued to serve as a board member for Colonial Savings of Fort Worth.



After practicingveterinarian medicine for over 20 years, he sold both of his clinics and devoted himself full time to Darsco Custom Homes, building over 800 homes in Denton County. He served as President of the Lewisville Division Home and Apartment Builders Associationof Metro Dallas, and was recognized by the National Homeowner’s Association, receiving multiple McSam awards.

Don married the love of his life, Anita Pockrus Riney, on October 21, 1994. They both have been very active in their church, Glory of Zion, where Don continued to serve as an elder, and both Don and Anita previously served as a House of Zion pastors for several years.

Don was a big brother to two younger sisters and one younger brother, a devoted father of 8 and proud Papaw of 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Anita Anderson, his children, Shelley Brantley, Donald J. Anderson, Jr., Ronald Anderson, Shari Anderson, Amy Knutson, Kena Gandy and Tad Riney, his sister, Elizabeth Anderson Jentsch and his brother, John Gaskins. He was preceded in death by his son, John Anderson, his granddaughter, Wendy Gayle Brantley and his sister, Loretta Anderson Gilbert.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Glory of Zion Church, located in the Global Spheres Center, at 7801 South I-35E, Corinth, Texas.
