John Douglas O'Connor
August 07, 1939 - September 17, 2018

John Douglas O’Connor passed away surrounded by family on September 17 at age 79 after a brief illness at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, TX. He was born in Petty, TX on August 7, 1939. John graduated from Texas A & M University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy. He served in the 2nd Infantry Division, United States Army, for two years. John retired after 32 years of service with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. While with the SCS, he worked in Texas, Kansas, and Louisiana; finishing that career as the Deputy State Conservationist of Louisiana. He then worked in Mt. Pleasant, TX for 13 years as a Regional Manager for the Texas State Soil & Water Conservation Board.

John was an active member of Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. He was a Texas Master Gardener and enjoyed working with plants in his yard. John was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the Temple Lodge in Mt. Pleasant, TX.

John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Deloris; daughter Susan Moore and husband Stan of Broken Bow, OK; daughter Pamela Kane and husband Chris of Rockwall, TX; grandchildren Sarah Connor Moore, Jackson John Kane, and Cooper James Kane; brother James Richard O’Connor and wife Jan of Bonham, TX; and several nieces and nephew, sisters-and-brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his father, Dee Maness O’Connor; mother, Zona O’Connor Parish; step-father, John Parrish; and brother Samuel Cooper O’Connor and his wife Nancy.

A visitation with the family will take place on Saturday, September 22, at 1:00 pm in the Gathering Hall of Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church located at 313 N Church in Mt. Pleasant. The celebration of life service will follow in the sanctuary at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church.
