Ken Bull
December 4, 1930 - August 9, 2018

Lt. Col. Kenneth Winson Bull, USAF Ret., age 87, of Brady, Texas passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. Ken was born December 4, 1930 in Bangs, Texas to Malta Willis Bull and Lessie D. (Conklin) Bull. Ken was the tenth out of eleven children with 5 brothers and 5 sisters. After graduation from high school Ken attended Arlington State University before enlisting in the Air Force during the Korean War. Ken was trained as a navigator and originally started his Air Force career as a navigator on fighter jets. He married Barbara Louise Bell on June 28, 1952 in the Christian Church in Brady. Soon after the wedding, Ken and Barbara moved to Anchorage, Alaska where their life in the Air Force started with Ken flying missions in Alaska during the Korean War. After tours of duty in Alaska and Florida, Ken was sent to Oklahoma State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. After an assignment in Ohio, Ken attended Texas A&M University where he received his Masters of Physics degree. After Texas A&M, Ken was transferred to the Air Force Weapons Lab in New Mexico where he supervised the nuclear testing at White Sands, New Mexico. His final assignment in the Air Force was in Washington D.C. where Ken led a team of scientists at the State Department. Ken was awarded the Legion of Merit for his service leading this team. He retired from the Air Force at the rank of Lt. Colonel. During his Air Force career, they lived in seven states as they were required to move often. After retiring from the Air Force, Ken attended the Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas where he received a Masters of Radiological Physics degree. During his time at the Southwestern Medical School Ken did cancer research using radiation. Ken and Barbara moved the family back to Brady in 1974 and settled on the family ranch that Barbara inherited from the Bell Family. Ken and Barbara built a home on the ranch and spent many years enjoying ranching and all the animals. Along with ranching Ken served Brady by being on the city council, Mayor Pro Tem, and Water Board. Additionally, Ken served the community as Chairman of the McCulloch County Republican Party for the last 40 years. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Brady.

Funeral services for Lt. Col. Kenneth W. Bull, USAF Ret. will be held 10:00am Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Reverend Bun Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady. The family will receive friends Saturday morning, prior to the services from 9:00am to 10:00am at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Friends may view Ken Bull’s Memorial Video Tribute and/or sign the online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com. Pallbearers will be Justin Bull, Michael Bull, Blake Henderson, Kamron McGehee, Stephen Marshall and Joey Ranne.

Ken is survived by his daughter Karen Young and husband Bruce of Amarillo, Texas; son Kenneth L. Bull and wife Robin of Boerne, Texas; brother Melvin Bull of Lake Buchanan, Texas; sister in law Sylvia Marshall of Richmond, Texas; grandchildren Diana McGehee, Donna Henderson, Justin Bull, and Michael Bull; and six great-grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of sixty-five years, Barbara, five sisters and four brothers. Memorial contributions in memory of Kenneth W. Bull may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 401 South Blackburn, Brady, Texas 76825.
