Randall Glen Engelke

Randall Glen Engelke, of Luling passed away on Sunday, July 29th at the age of 60. Randy was born October 24, 1957, in Luling, Texas, the son of Vernon and Shirley Engelke. Randy grew up on his parent’s farm in the Sullivan community. He graduated from Luling High School in 1976 where he was very active in FFA and 4-H. He then went on to graduate from Texas A&M in 1980.

Randy returned home to raise his kids, Dusty, Landon, & Ashley, in the Luling community. He began his professional career as the Assistant Manager at the Luling Foundation Farm. Afterwards, he started his 20 year long career in the oilfield, which ranged from contract pumping to owner/operator of Quality Treating Service.

In 2003, Randy went to work for the City of Luling as the Parks & Recreation Director, a position he held until his retirement in 2018. During his time with the city, he discovered his passion in the restoration of the Zedler Mill. Randy spent endless hours learning the history of the mill and the Zedler family, researching the intricacies of the operations of the mill and how it was instrumental in the growth of Luling.

Randy loved the outdoors and sharing it with others, especially hunting and fishing. His other hobbies included collecting antiques, Studebakers, Luling history, and Indian artifacts.

Most of all, Randy loved his family. He enjoyed taking trips to the coast and the Colorado mountains with his wife Amanda. Randy raised his kids to have a strong work ethic and to take pride in their work. “If you’re gonna do it, do it right.” His love for his grandbabies was like no other and he relished at the opportunity to spend time with them.

Randy is survived by his wife, Amanda; his children, Dustin Engelke and wife Danielle of Kingsbury; Landon Engelke and wife Shannon of Shamrock; and Ashley Butts and husband Zachary of Bryan; his stepsons, Tyler Fangman and Matthew Fangman of Luling; his grandchildren Taylor, Justis, Lauren, Jameson, Langley, Randie, and Landon Jr.; his mother, Shirley Engelke of Kingsbury; his brothers, Dennis Engelke and wife Elizabeth of Beaumont; Tom Engelke of Austin; and Terry Engelke and wife Chandy of Kingsbury; and numerous other family members and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Vernon Engelke.
