Robert William Maniha, M.D., 81, passed away July 17, 2018 after an extended illness. His wife and son were by his side.
Born in Houston on September 29, 1936 to William A. Maniha & Phyllis Pinto Maniha, he grew up in the Southampton area near Rice University, was a graduate of the Lamar High School Class of '54, Texas A&M University Class of '58, and finally a proud 1963 graduate of the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, TX. Returning to Houston, he completed his internship and residencies at Hermann Hospital, and then enjoyed a long successful career as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist where he was respected by his peers and beloved by his patients.
His family, sports, and the great outdoors were his passions. Robert was an avid hunter and successful sports fisherman. He traveled all over Texas and the entire western hemisphere in pursuit of great game and fishing opportunities. Additionally, he enjoyed travel, snow skiing, and racquetball, creating many wonderful and lasting memories with his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Kay Noble Maniha, and son, Robert Mark Maniha, both of Houston. He is also survived by his sister, Dr. Carolyn Maniha Adair and her husband, Dr. Thomas W. Adair III , as well as an aunt, Julie Pinto Martin, all of College Station, TX. Additional survivors are his aunt, Elaine Maniha of Houston, TX; and a host of many cousins and their families. The family would also like to especially thank Evelyn, Olivia, and Patricia for their special care during his illness.
There will be a celebration of Robert's life to be held in the Fall. More details will follow closer to that time.
Those wishing to honor Robert may make a contribution to the Houston Lewy Body Dementia Assn.; Trinity Episcopal Church - Houston; or Texas A&M University, College Station, TX.
