Duane Strother

November 6, 1926 - July 11, 2018
Resided in Formerly Hondo, Texas

Duane A. Strother, age 91, passed away July 11, 2018 in San Antonio.

He was born Nov 6, 1926 to Clarence and Beulah ( Johnson) Strother in Pine Prairie, LA. The family moved to Del Rio, where Duane graduated from high school in 1943.

He joined the Navy during WWII ( 1944-46) as an Aviation Machinist Mate in the South Pacific. He attended Texas A&M where he was Commanding Officer of “A” Troop Calvary in the Corps of Cadets his senior year . He was a distinguished military graduate in 1950. shortly after he began his service in the Army and was stationed near Mainz, Germany as a 2nd Lt. in the Company ”C” 66th Medium Tank Battalion where he rose to the rank of 1st Lt.

After his service they returned to Texas where Duane was hired by Swift and Co. The family moved several times in the next 30 plus years as Duane managed several animal feed plants In Des Moines, Memphis, Hereford, Ft Worth, North Platte,NE, Atlantic Iowa and St Joseph Missouri where he retired.

He and Kathlyn returned to Hondo in 1985 where he was an avid golfer, and nicknamed “Drano” for his ability to sink putts. He was a loyal Texas A&M football fan and was a 50 year member of the A&M “Century” Club. He served as a class agent and was a member of the San Antonio A & M Club

Duane was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hondo, where he a Kathlyn were married and all their children and grand children were baptized.

Cherishing his memory are; sons Glenn and fiancée Shirley Crandall of San Antonio, William (Bill) of Plano, daughter Denise Christensen, Kearney, NE. Grandchildren; Callan Duane Christensen of College Station and Madeline Christensen, of Lincoln, NE. Nephew Rick Letot and wife Anna of Granbury. Niece Juddee (Brucks) Parish and husband James of Houston. Along with many cousins and extended family members

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathlyn and only sister, Shirley Letot.

A private service will be held.
