Clarence Chandler
March 31, 1939 - July 14, 2018

Clarence R. Chandler was born on March 31, 1939 to Mattie & Nap Chandler in Corpus Christi, Texas. He grew up and attended school in Benavides, Texas. He went to Miller High School in Corpus his senior year. Then, Clarence headed to Texas A & M University which opened up a whole new world for him. He earned a BS Degree in Geological Engineering in the class of 1961.

Soon he reported for duty in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant. He was sent to Korea for a 12 month assignment. While in Korea, he contacted an Aggie friend; and the two soldiers learned of the possibility of “hitchhiking” with the military traveling west, rather than the tradition route from Korea to San Francisco. For two young men, it was the experience of a lifetime. This resulted in a love of travel for Clarence.

In 1966, Clarence started his oil industry career with Texaco in Liberty, Texas. While there, he met and married Dana Huggins. After being located in Alvin, Texas, and Oklahoma City, they moved to Midland, Texas in 1976. Clarence went to work for Erd Johnson at Reserve Oil and Gas. In 1980, Clarence joined Marshall & Winston, Inc. as their production engineer. The experience provided him with many wonderful memories. In 2009, Clarence retired as President of Marshall & Winston, Inc. ready to enjoy the rewards of retirement.

Clarence also made significant contributions to the community by serving on the board of Kimberlea, volunteering for Junior Achievement, President of Green Tree Country Club, and President of Hospice of Midland.

Clarence’s greatest pleasure was spending time on his ranch, RPP, for his “mesquite therapy”. He loved hunting birds with his buddies and seeing his grandchildren enjoy the outdoors.

After a long courageous fight against the disease named PSP (type of Parkinson’s), Clarence died Saturday afternoon (July 14, 2018) at home with his wife, Dana, and caregiver, Fred Jimenez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie & Nap Chandler. Also, he had a twin brother named James Allan Chandler who lived only four days.

He is survived by his wife, Dana Chandler of Midland; two sons, Greg Chandler (Kristi) of Spring Branch, Texas, and Eric Chandler (Katie) of Richardson, Texas; and ten grandchildren, Mason, Grace, Davis, Nolan, Faith, Lincoln, Mercy, and Jackson (Greg & Kristi) and Annie and Luke (Eric & Katie); Brother and Sister-In-Law Brent and Delores Huggins of Liberty, Texas.

Clarence’s family wish to express gratitude to Dr. Summer Merritt, MD, Clarence’s caregiver, Fred Jimenez (who took care of the entire family!!) and the most caring group from Hospice of Midland. Thank you all!!!

Memorial services will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, July 19, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CurePSP, Inc., 404 Fifth Avenue, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10018, Hospice of Midland, Inc, First Presbyterian Church, or organization of your choice.
