David Lloyd Wood
June 12, 1952 ~ July 2, 2018 (age 66)

On the morning of July 2, 2018, the world lost a big man with a giant heart when David Lloyd Wood, age 66, of Buffalo, Texas, lost a hard fought battle against cancer and passed from this world into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father.
David was born June 12, 1952 in Houston, Texas to the late Vernon Lloyd and Fern (Ketchey) Wood.

David Wood grew up in Buffalo, Texas. He attended Buffalo schools where he excelled in academics, and participated in many extracurricular activities including, but not limited to football, One Act Play, class officer and Future Farmers of America. David received many honors while at Buffalo High School, including being named “Highest Ranking Boy” of his graduating class, voted Most Likely to Succeed, and elected FFA District Officer, to name a few among several distinctions. When not working to excel in school, David enjoyed his life on the family farm near Flo, Texas, working cattle and spending time with his family.

David attended Texas A&M University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology. His greatest honor and source of pride was serving in the Corps of Cadets, Company F-1, where he earned the nickname “Buffalo” for his fables and stories about his beloved hometown. As a freshman, David was a member of the legendary Texas A&M Fish Drill Team and helped to build the largest Aggie Bonfire – which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest bonfire ever recorded. David’s adoration for the Corps of Cadets continued as a Former Student, as he served on the committee that was credited with the re-establishment of Parson’s Mounted Cavalry. While in Aggieland, he met his future wife of forty-four years, Sherald. David was elated and proud that his two daughters, Terri Smith ’99 and Holly Shrieve ’09, carried on the family tradition by attending Texas A&M.

After graduating, David returned home to join the family business, Wood & Son’s, Inc. He had worked side by side with his father since the age of eight, and took pride in serving alongside his brother to help the family business expand. It was not unusual to see David working around the clock to make sure a hospital, nursing home or other customers had the services they needed. The light burned late into the night as

David’s father mentored him or built HVAC systems for major industrial clients around the region. During his tenure with Wood & Sons. Inc., David served on the Carrier Corporation Dealer’s Council.
David fulfilled a sincere belief in service to one’s community by participating in many local organizations such as the Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, served as a member of the board of directors of Citizen’s State Bank, and Citizens Bank Holding Company.

David’s dedication to serving and helping others came from his enduring personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His chief commitment as a father was to be a disciple unto his children. In his straight forward and often rough-around-the-edges approach, he built a strong foundation for which his daughters’ faith and commitment to Christ would grow. David was a member of Stewart Memorial Methodist Church, a Freemason, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Shriners International.

David Wood is survived by his wife, Sherald (Cecil) Wood, daughters Terri Lynne (Thomas) Smith of Heath, Texas and Holly Laine (Jason) Shrieve of Conroe, Texas; grandsons Davis Lloyd Jefferson Smith and Knox Bradley Shrieve; brother Donald (Cindy) Wood of Buffalo, nephews Clayton (Kasey) Wood, Chad Wood and Curtis Wood also of Buffalo, Texas. David is also survived by his dear aunt Agnes Robinson of Huntsville and a host of family and friends across the state and country.
