William Anderson Cooper, Jr.
February 04, 1927 - May 31, 2018

Dr. William Anderson Cooper, Jr., of Belton, TX, passed from this life on May 31, 2018.

Bill was born in Archer City, TX on February 4, 1927 to the late Bill and Bess Cooper of Denton, TX.

Dr. Cooper proudly served in the Hospital Corps for United States Naval Reserve during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He obtained his Bachelor and Master’s degrees from the University of North Texas, and his PhD from Texas A&M University. He taught as a Professor of Biology for 30 years at West Texas State University in Canyon, TX, where he also studied the effects of maternal vitamin deficiencies on offspring for the American Heart Association and studied the water quality at Lake Meredith, TX. He co-authored the manual used in the laboratory portion of biology classes. He was a member of the Texas Association of Health Professional Advisors, serving as President of the State organization in 1985.

Bill married the love of his life, Charlene Snodgrass, on July 14, 1952. Together they raised four children. He served as a deacon, then an elder at the University Church of Christ in Canyon, TX and as an elder at Avenue T Church of Christ in Temple, TX. He was active in the community in Canyon, and was an underwriter for TEXAS Musical Drama. After retirement, Bill and Charlene traveled widely with the Sojourners organization, assisting many congregations of the church of Christ with various projects ranging from repairing church camps to conducting revivals and Vacation Bible Schools.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene; children, Viki and Lynn Salmon of Wichita Falls, TX, Andy and Kelly Cooper of Edmond, OK, Ken Cooper of Dallas, TX, and Judy and LaMoyne Davis of New Braunfels, TX; sister, Jane Williams and her husband, Jim, of Frisco, TX, and numerous other family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Leon Valley Church of Christ in Temple, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to High Plains Childrens’ Home in Amarillo, TX.
