Dr. Robert James Rodgers, 91, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003. He was born near Franklin, Texas, on August 16, 1911. This long-time resident of Flint Hill, Va., served as a veterinarian since his graduation from Texas A & M in June of 1941, when he married Juanda
Mae Bentley. He was a master mason. He was a dedicated veterinarian who worked with large animals for the United States government from North Carolina, Texas, California and New York. He is survived by his loving family who will miss him terribly, Karan Rodgers,
Stephanie and Jennifer Torneden; Jill, Jack and Lauren Humphries, Daliah and Richard Macon, Becky and Lad Nicholson, Thomas Louis Rodgers, and by his loving friends Patricia and Clarence Shifflett. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sallie Anne Rodgers and
Mary Ellen Porter; and his wife, Juanda Bentley. Dr. Rodgers will always be remembered for his bravery, intelligence, love of animals and care for his friends and family. He taught his friends and family to adapt to what challenges life provided. Even after
his blindness in the early 1980’s he lived and independent life where he was able to continue working on his vintage cars, playing and fishing with his grandchildren, and telling all kinds of stories. A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. James Woods,
was held at the Teague Funeral Home [Charlottesville VA] on April 24, 2003.
