Harold Eugene Phillips
January 3, 1924 - April 21, 2018

Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Catholic Chapel at St. Francis Village, preceded by a Rosary and Visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Committal: 10:15 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2019 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 3601 Altamesa Blvd., Fort Worth 76133.

Harold Eugene “Gene” Phillips died on April 21, 2018.

Gene was born in Whitesboro on January 3, 1924 to Vaden and Lela Harp Phillips. He served in the United States Marine Corps (1942-1946) and was a graduate of Texas A & M, Class of ’49. For 22 years, he was Director of School Accreditation for Texas Education Agency. He served on the Commission on Secondary Schools for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1968-1981). He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Council 2813.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years and mother of his children, Mallie Derden Phillips; his son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Marilou Phillips; and a sister, Peggy Middleton.

Survivors: Wife of 43 years, Ruth Pierel Phillips; son, Joe D. Phillips and wife, Bonnie of Virginia; daughter, Julia Parker and husband, Gene of Austin; grandchildren, Carolyn Kendell and husband, Kevin, Leanne Leffert and husband, CMDR Bruce Leffert USN, Capt. Stephen Phillips USMC, Elizabeth Engelhardt and husband, Gabriel, Cynthia Coppinger and husband, Paul, and Joshua E. Parker; also 11 great-grandchildren.
