Dr. David M. Elston, Sr.
November 24, 1924 - May 7, 2018
Born November 24, 1924 in McDade, Louisiana to Dudley Clark Elston and Una Lee Harrell Elston, David Moore Elston, Sr. was the fourth in a family of five, having two brothers, Joseph Harrell Elston and Robert Douglas Elston, and two sisters, Sarah E. Brupbacher
and Evelyn E. Johnson. He lost his year long battle of cancer on May 7, 2018.
Following graduation from Elm Grove High School, he was inducted into the Army in July of 1943. Stationed in Europe, he was a member of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions with the 518 Regiment, serving in several locations including Bastone, Belgium. He
was honorably discharged in May of 1946.
He attended Texas A & M, courtesy of the GI Bill, entering their Veterinary College in 1948 and graduating in the Class of 1952. Always an Aggie Fan, he loved his years at College Station, Texas.
Moving to Eunice, he practiced mostly large animals for seven years where he met and married his wife, Dolores LaTour in 1953. He ultimately settled in Lafayette, opening his practice on Bertrand Drive in 1960. He continued to serve the Lafayette community
for the next 50 years immensely enjoying both his patients and their owners. After retiring, he remained in contact with his colleagues, especially good friends, Dr. Phillip and Paula Dupont.
He is survived by his three children, David Moore Elston, Jr. and his wife Lynn, Jonathan Dudley Elston and his wife Stacey, and Karen Carson and her husband Jim; seven grandchildren, Crystal Elston, Kelly and Kevin Elston, Thomas and Kathryn Elston , Jim Carson,
Cody Carson and John Carson; great grandchildren, Khloe, James and Eli.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, his wife, Dolores and a son, Rex Anthony Elston.
He and his family have been so blessed by wonderful friends, neighbors and relatives who came to visit, brought delicious food, kind cards and spent time with him and us. We were so blessed by his caregiver, Jeri, who enabled him to continue to live in his
own home. His sense of humor and abundance of stories were enjoyed by all who knew him.
He will be greatly missed. We love you Dad....
