James "Jim" S. Ellis
January 13, 1949 - February 27, 2018

James “Jim” S. Ellis, 69, long-time Parsons resident, died at 2:47 A.M., Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Labette Health.

Jim was born January 13, 1949 in Parsons, a son of Orman Carl “Jeff” and Jane (Landreth) Ellis. He was raised in Parsons and attended schools here. During high school, he played on the varsity tennis team. Upon graduating from Parsons High School in 1967 he attended the Parsons Junior College and later transferred to Texas A & M, graduating in 1971. He worked as the Director of Parks and Recreation in Manhattan, Kansas, Montgomery, Alabama, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama. While living in Montgomery, Alabama, Jim was integral in the development of Lagoon Park. He later managed country clubs near Dallas, Texas, Macon Georgia and Conroe, Texas. He returned to Parsons in May 1980 and was employed at the recreation commission. On December 8, 1980 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

On December 28, 1971 he was united in marriage to Adria Kinzie at Parsons. They later divorced.

He attended the St. John’s Episcopal Church at Parsons.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters in-law– Paxton and Catherine Ellis, Port St. Lucie, Florida, Samuel and Jamie Ellis, Key West, Florida; one daughter and son in-law – Holly Ellis and Abe Ferrell, Stillwater, Oklahoma; five grandchildren – Aiden, Conner, Bennett and Delayni Ellis, Port St. Lucie, Florida, Addyson Ferrell, Stillwater, Oklahoma; his mother – Jane Ellis-Hett, Parsons, Kansas; one brother and sister in-law Jeffrey and Carol Lynne Ellis, Lake Quivira, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father – Jeff Ellis.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Wesley United Methodist Church with Pat McReynolds and Fr. Richard McCandless officiating. Burial will be in the Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 Sunday afternoon at the CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME. Memorials are suggested to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mid America Chapter or to the Parsons Good Samaritan Center. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of Jim’s friends who cared for him and particularly to his caregivers at the Parsons Good Samaritan Center.
