Robert Clain Murray
SEPTEMBER 15, 1943 – APRIL 22, 2018

Robert “Bob” Clain Murray, 74, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Houston, Texas to James Wayman and Milva McClain Murray.

Bob is survived by his wife, Linda B. Murray; children, Edward Plessinger (Kathy), Lori Whalen (Dean), Leah M. Freeley (Tom), Nora Johnson (David), and James Murray (LaRaine); 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, James Michael Murray (Sandy), and Bruce Walker Murray (Shirley); and many nieces and nephews.

Bob graduated from Texas A&M in 1965 in Aerospace Engineering. He specialized in stress analysis engineering. He moved to California to work with Douglas Aircraft. He then moved to Virginia in 1973 to work with Lim Timco Vault. He had the opportunity to work with NASA on different wind tunnels. His crowning achievement during this time was the LDEF project. In 1998, he joined Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. During this time, he had the opportunity to contribute to the newly designed aircraft carrier, The Gerald R. Ford. He retired in 2006.

Many thanks to his caregivers, Shirley Hunter (early stages) and Donna Scott (who provided excellent last stage care), a special appreciation for the Alzheimer’s support group at James River Nursing Home, Project LifeSaver provided by the Newport News Sheriff’s Department and all the hospice workers affiliated with Grace Hospice in Williamsburg. A special thank you also to all family and friends who helped to care for Bob and provided support and comfort to his family.

Services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or Grace Hospice, 263 McLaws Circle, Suite 100, Williamsburg, Virginia 757-561-2880.

Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.
