Howell N Forman Jr.
OCTOBER 27, 1925 – MARCH 3, 2018

Howell Northcutt Forman, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was surrounded by family when he departed this life on March 3, 2018, after a lengthy illness. Howell was born in Longview, Texas, on October 27, 1925, to Howell Northcutt and Etha Reagin Forman. He was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1946, where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He attained the rank of lieutenant in the United States Navy, serving in both World War II and the Korean conflict.

Following college, while working for DuPont in Virginia, Howell met his beloved Ethel Hantske; they were married on August 27, 1949, and moved shortly thereafter to Dallas, Texas. After earning his Masters in Industrial Engineering, he joined the Engineering faculty of Southern Methodist University where he served for over fifteen years. Howell then began his own management consulting firm in Dallas. His clients included Baylor Medical Center, the Southern Baptist Convention, Haggar Company, John E. Mitchell Company and others. Howell and Ethel were active members of Central Christian Church in Dallas, where he served as both a deacon and an elder, as well the congregation Board Chairman. He was a founding member of the Thai Christian Foundation, which supports the work of Alan and Joan Eubank in Thailand.

In the late 1970s, Forman was hired by Barry Reynolds, inventor of the cotton module mover truck. Moving to Lubbock, Forman and Reynolds developed Reynolds’ concept into Reynolds Module Systems, Inc., a quality manufacturing and service company serving the South Plains, South Texas and California cotton fields. These early cotton module trucks transformed the cotton industry. Module mover trucks now operate in every cotton growing region in the United States and Mexico.

In August of 1982, the Forman family purchased Pick-Up Pals – a retail truck accessory store, in a two-stall filling station at the corner of Broadway and Avenue Q in the heart of Lubbock. One year later, quick growth facilitated a move to 6810 Wayne Avenue, which remains the primary customer service location today. Originally a resource for after-market pick-up truck accessories, Pick-Up Pals has grown through the decades. Today, PUP is recognized as a leading manufacturer and distributor of truck equipment and accessories for personal, commercial fleet and oilfield service trucks. Howell remained actively involved in the business operations until his retirement in the late 1990s and continued to serve as an advisor until his death.

After moving to Lubbock, Howell and Ethel joined First Christian Church. Howell served as an elder, as well as being instrumental on the building committee for the Family Life Center.

Loving stewards, Howell and Ethel are long-time supporters of their churches, Texas A&M, the Juliette Fowler Communities, Thai Christian Foundation, Free Burma Rangers (freeburmarangers.org), South Plains Foodbank, Camino Foundation, Billy Graham Evangelistic Foundation and others.

Howell is survived by his beloved wife of over 68 years, Ethel Hantske Forman, and their three children: Reagin Forman Hults (Sid Curless), Howell “Trip” Northcutt Forman III (Leanne) and Stephen Hantske Forman (Jeanette). Grandchildren: David Hults (Cindy); Jonathan Hults (Bronwyn); Jason Hults (Alyson); Ashley Forman; Howell “Cutter” Northcutt Forman IV (Ashley); Randall Forman; Hailey Forman; (Justin Lowrey; Kevin Lowrey; Jordan Lowrey); Jeana Gering (Danny); Allison Stoos (Chris) and Annie Forman. Great-grandchildren: Shiloh Stone, Elena Hults and Brianna Hults.

Howell will be buried in Dallas with his son, John William Forman, who predeceased him in 1959.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and support staff of the palliative care center at Covenant Hospital, Lubbock.

Arrangements are being handled by Sparkman-Hillcrest of Dallas.

A memorial service is planned for March 24, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at First Christian Church in Lubbock.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to either one of Howell’s charities or one of your own.
