Dewey Samuels
November 23, 1928 - February 27, 2018

William Dewey Samuels, Jr. of Terrell, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on the evening of Feb. 27, 2018. Dewey was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved wife, Henri Liston Samuels, his parents, Dewey, Sr. and Marie Samuels, step-mother Reba, and his sisters: Dorothy Sullins and Mary Leachman.

Dewey was born November 23, 1928 in Terrell, Texas in an era that shaped every characteristic of his personality. He graduated Terrell High School in 1946 and then attended Texas A&M. After graduating in 1950, Dewey served in the US Air Force until 1953. It was in 1951 that he married the love of his life, Henri Liston, and together they had 61 years of precious memories until her passing in 2012.

Dewey returned to Terrell, joining his dad and uncle becoming a 3rd generation farmer. Never afraid of hard work, he loved and lived for farming and working the land that he loved dearly. He entered into farming knowing full well the hardships but did so with a cheerful heart, appreciating the benefits of family farm life.

Dewey served his community in many ways. He was a Scout Leader for over 20 years with Troop 391, appointed to the High Point WSC Board three different times serving a total of 28 years, elected to the Terrell School Board for 10 years and served with the Farm Service Agency, formerly known as the County Ag Committee, for 29 years.

He and Henri were faithful and active members of College Mound United Methodist Church and his smile was a welcome sight to both visitors and members every time the doors opened. A man of wisdom, integrity, character and honor, Dewey leaves a legacy to his family that will be treasured for all time and an example to this community that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Dewey leaves to celebrate his memory his son, Bill Samuels and wife, Mary Pat of Terrell; daughter, Dessie Samuels of Terrell; grandchildren: Julie Bolding and husband Mark, Haley McCabe and husband, Mark; sister, Martha McAllister and husband, Jerry; sister in law, Barbara Rasor and husband, Frank as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and a host of friends.

A Memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday March 3, 2018 at College Mound United Methodist Church with interment preceding the Memorial Service at 10:30 am Saturday at College Mound Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 pm to 8 pm Friday March 2, 2018 at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. For those wishing, memorials may be made to College Mound United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 793, Terrell, TX 75160.
