Watt (Palo) Matthews Casey
August 11, 1920 - February 24, 2018

Watt (Palo) Matthews Casey, age 97 of Albany, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 1st at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church in Albany with Rev. Anthony Ceder officiating. Interment will follow in the Lambshead Ranch Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 28th at Morehart Mortuary of Albany.

Watt Matthews Casey was born on August 11, 1920 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the third child of Liston Agnew (Pat) Casey and Ethel Matthews Casey both of whom where natives of Albany, Texas.

Watt attended schools in San Antonio, Houston, Austin and graduated from Albany High School with the class of 1938. He attended the University of Texas in Austin, Hardin Simmons University, and graduated from The College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in September 1943.

He served in the Army Veterinary Corps, and then in the parachute infantry until after World War II ended.

Watt practiced veterinary medicine full time less than one year, most of his life he was a cowboy and a rancher. He was a breeder of Beefmaster Cattle. He ranched at Albany and Laredo, Texas, and Kiowa, Colorado, with most of the time at Albany.

On June 11, 1949, Watt and Dosia Smith of Springfield, Massachusetts were married. They were blessed with four children, Watt, Jr., Susan (married to Michael Williams), Rodney (married to Jennifer) and David.

Watt was a member of the Presbyterian denomination for many years, and the Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church since moving back to Albany with his family from Colorado in 1964.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Sallie Joe, who died during childhood, and Mary, who, with her husband Tom Lasater, had six children.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dosia Casey, his children and their spouses, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many relatives.
