Jessica Trotter Batchelor
May 5, 1991 - January 8, 2018

Jessica Trotter Batchelor passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 in Houston, Texas. She was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 5, 1991 to Mitch and Susan Trotter. As a child, Jessica enjoyed competing in roller skating and ice skating, playing soccer and basketball, participating in Girl Scouts, and spending time with her friends. She moved with her family from Virginia to Katy, Texas in 2003. While attending Seven Lakes High School, she was on the varsity basketball team, played clarinet in the band, and was an officer in the National Honor Society.

Jessica graduated in 2009 and went on to Texas A&M University, where she joined ASSIST, a freshman leadership organization focused on community service. She later became a mentor and then a director for the organization. In the summer of 2011, before starting her junior year, Jessica was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and was treated with chemotherapy and radiation during the fall and spring semesters. She was able to continue at A&M part time while still fulfilling her duties with ASSIST, travelling back and forth between Houston and College Station multiple times per week. Jessica gained remission in May of 2012, and graduated from Texas A&M in 2014 with an undergraduate degree in Accounting and a Masters in Management Information Systems. She passed her CPA exams and worked for the Risk Assurance team at PwC. She was the third generation Trotter to work for this accounting firm.

In September 2015, Jessica married Brett Batchelor, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life. They lived in Houston with their dog, Calvin.

Jessica’s cancer relapsed in June of 2016. She had several months of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant in December. Following transplant, she was in remission but was given maintenance chemo and was on a steroid treatment plan. In her last week before passing, Jessica became ill with the flu and bacterial pneumonia, and her weakened immune system could not handle these infections.

Jessica lived life with joy in her heart and a strong love for others. She was an avid sports fan, playing several sports such as basketball and sand volleyball, and frequently attending college and professional games. She also loved to host parties and play board games with friends. But she most valued spending time with her family – including her dog – and she always made it a priority to do so. She handled all that life had to throw at her with remarkable grace and courage.

She is survived by her husband Brett Batchelor, parents Mitch and Susan Trotter, sister April Trotter, father and mother-in-law Danny and Lorinda Batchelor, sister and brother-in-law Alison and Caleb Garison and their children Chloe and James, aunt and uncle Leigh and Jim Kreider and their children Jim and David, aunt and uncle Jenny and Nick Trotter and their children Ashley Hoarsely, Chelsea and Geoff Werner and their son Owen, grandmother Mary Trotter, and great aunt Katherine Price.

Flowers can be sent to Schmidt Funeral Home at 1344 West Grand Parkway South, Katy, TX 77494 until Friday. Flowers can be sent to Grace Fellowship United Methodist Church at 2655 S Mason Rd, Katy, TX 77450 on Friday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, and on Saturday morning between 9:00 am and 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
