Jack Waylon Stone
(April 7, 1936 - February 8, 2018)
Jack Waylon Stone, 81, of Groesbeck and formerly of Temple passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 in Temple.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, February 11, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday February 12, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Groesbeck. Reverend Steve Nance will officiate and will be assisted by Chaplain Jon Honea (Limestone Medical Center) and Reverend Nathaniel Bedford. Burial will follow in Criswell Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Greg Ray, Stan Ray, Jimmy Joe Stone, Kevin Stone, Gary Smith, Tim Smith, Tony Lenoir, and Rusty Stone.
Mr. Stone was born April 7, 1936, the son of Shirley Mae and Charlie Stone. He attended Big Hill and Groesbeck schools. He was a 1954 graduate of Groesbeck High School and was president of his senior class. He was involved in FFA and was the third GHS student to earn the Lone Star Farmer degree.
Jack attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1958 with a commission as a lieutenant in the Air Force.
Jack married his high school sweetheart, Martha Hawkins, on June 14, 1958, and he was stationed at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, during the early years of their marriage. Their children were born in Mississippi. Following his service in the Air Force, Jack taught school for one year, before accepting a position with the United States Department of Agriculture as a warehouse examiner.
Jack and his family lived in Corpus Christi for 12 years before moving to Temple in 1977. Upon retirement, Jack and Martha returned to Groesbeck in 2003. Mr. Stone worked with Boy Scouts in Corpus Christi and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Groesbeck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Louise Ray; and two brothers, Charles Stone Jr. and Marshall Stone.
Surviving are his wife Martha Stone of Groesbeck; a daughter and son in law, Sonya and Kirby Luechauer of Austin; a son, David Stone of Temple; four grandchildren, Zach Luechauer of San Francisco, Ashley Luechauer of Austin, Shelby Stone of Macomb, Illinois, and Zoe Luechauer of the University of Alabama; three brothers, G.Z. (Peaches) Stone and wife Patricia of Groesbeck, Billy Kyle Stone and wife Alta of Groesbeck and W.N. (Dub) Stone of Palestine; two sisters, Maxine Smith and husband Travis of Abilene and Martha Ann LeNoir of Groesbeck; and two brother in laws, Tom Hawkins of Groesbeck and Jack Hawkins of Dallas; and numerous nephews and nieces.
