Judy Clifton Bowman Pitts
September 14, 1952 - February 7, 2018

Memorial service for Judy Clifton Bowman Pitts, 65, of Nacogdoches, will be at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Nacogdoches, with Rev. Dr. Jeff Macdonald officiating.

Mrs. Pitts passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 in Nacogdoches. She was born on September 14, 1952 in Nacogdoches.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church.

Judy grew up in Nacogdoches and graduated from Central Heights High School. After high school, she began her higher education at Stephen F. Austin State University before transferring to Texas A&M University. A proud Aggie at heart, she received her degree in Elementary Education before pursuing a career with Child Protective Services of Texas. For over 40 years, Judy dedicated her life to this organization and to families across the state. She served as the Regional Director of Regions 4 and 5 during her tenure. Judy never looked at her daily tasks and challenges as “a job” but instead as a privilege. It gave her great purpose which she fulfilled with dignity and grace. She positively changed the lives of children and foster families statewide for almost half a century. Her time and devotion to the field earned her many accolades such as Administrator of the Year from the Texas Foster Families Association, Department of Family and Protective Services Team and Integrity Award, Children’s Partnership Vision Award from the DFPS Commissioner, and the Guardian Angel Award. She was recognized by the Black Adoption Counsel of Southern Texas, and the Casey Family Programs. Judy was celebrated for her commitment to the CPS vision and value of ‘Children First Safe and Secure,’ and has been honored for her outstanding accomplishments in volunteer work. Her life speaks volumes of her servant’s heart and the desire she had to change the world one life at a time.

When remembering Judy’s life and her career, her sister, June expressed, “Her commitment to her job and the children under her protection was her life. When traveling for work or pleasure, she was always a phone call away, from her staff and clients. It has been said “Judy is a very private person who does a lot of public good.”

Judy did maintain a wonderful life outside of her career. In fact, her career is what brought Judy and her soulmate together. While working on a fundraiser for the Foster Parents Association, Milton Pitts happened to be there as well and a spark between them that day would ignite a lifetime of love. They were married on July 20, 1990 in Houston. Goody, as her grandson Bryson Drury would call Judy, loved to travel with Bryson and also with her sister, June Clifton Price. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and loved attending Open Door Sunday School Class there.

Judy was a breath of fresh air and possessed a light that radiated onto everyone who knew her. The positive impact she had on this world and the legacy she leaves behind will forever be treasured and remembered.

Judy is survived by her loving husband Milton Pitts; sons: Carson Bowman of Fort Worth, and Charley Pitts and wife, Yayuk of Singapore; grandson: Bryson Bowman Drury; sister, June Clifton Price and husband, Mike of Nacogdoches along with loving nephews and other family and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents W.T. Clifton and Alma Banks Clifton; brother: Neal Clifton and sister, Patti Tomme.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The East Texas Foster Families Association at P.O. Box 631232, Nacogdoches, Texas 75963.
