Sam A. Rowe died on January 15, 2018 at the age of 90. Sam grew up on a farm in Emmet, Arkansas.
Discharged from the Marines at the end of WWII, Sam returned to college where he met Patricia (Patsy) McLelland. After Sam graduated from Texas A&M, they married and moved to Alvin, Texas where Sam joined the Alvin State Bank. In 1961 he became president. Under his leadership the bank grew into the largest bank in Brazoria County.
Sam had many leadership roles in his community. He was a member of the Alvin School Board . He served as Post commander for American Legion Post #129, and as the Legion's Boys State & Girls State liaison for Alvin, Danbury, and Pearland High schools. He served as a Director of the Brazos River Authority, as President of Alvin/Manvel Chamber of Commerce, and Boy Scout leader (3 sons are Eagle Scouts). Sam was a 60-year leader in Alvin's First United Methodist Church and the last living member of the original (1962) Building Committee.
He had special affection for hunting, hiking, camping, and fishing with family and friends; two of his favorite spots were the Deer Camp in the Texas Hill Country and the Beartooth Mountains of Montana,
He is survived by his four children: Mark, David, Elizabeth, and John; and seven grandchildren: Sam, Lindsay, Arthur, Paul, Tim, Katie, and Sarah
Sam's memorial service will be at the First United Methodist Church, 611 W. South Street Alvin, Texas on Saturday, February 10 at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the
Alvin Library League – Patsy Rowe Fund .
