Mike Lott
July 09, 1940 - December 08, 2017

Mike Murphy Lott, 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 8, 2017. He was born in Denton, TX on July 19, 1940. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Thelma Lott. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Bobbie Lott and family: Steven and Andrea Lott, Shaeffer, Sutton and Sarah Charles; and Stacy and Don Herring, Allison and Andrew, all of Dallas.

Although born in Denton, he was a lifelong resident of Oak Cliff. Mike attended Rosemont Elementary, Greiner Middle School, and was a graduate of Sunset High School. He proudly attended Texas A&M and graduated in 1962. After graduation, he served in the Naval Reserve and started his career at Parkland Hospital, where he met and married his wife, Bobbie, of 51 years. After the birth of their son Steven, he became the director of the computer department at All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth. During that time, Mike and Bobbie welcomed their daughter, Stacy, into the family. As a dedicated family man and ambassador to all things social, Mike landed the most fitting and fun position of his career. As Director of Operations at Texas Stadium, he could share the fun with his whole family. For nine years, friends and family enjoyed endless football games, concerts, wrestling, and even monster truck races from his sky box. Afterwards, Mike stayed true to his Oak Cliff roots. He brought his years of operations and construction experience back to the neighborhood and started Repairs Unlimited, which was his last position before retirement called.

For the last three years, Mike split his time between his two favorite positions: working at The Kessler School with students and families, and as President and CEO of his Front Porch. At his position on the Front Porch, Mike made sure every neighbor was up to speed on current events, every dog got at least one treat, and his feathered friends had ample seed. At The Kessler School, Mike was the lead security man, making sure every student had a smile, a hug, and was safe and happy at school each day.

Mike had endless love to give and was loved by everyone. He never met a stranger. Mike knew everyone by their first name, knew their children’s names, their pet’s names, and even took the time to support his children, grandchildren, and friend’s children at countless activities. After two of his best friends passed away, Jerry Vincent and Charles Smith, Mike expand his family without hesitation to include Judy, Kerry, Layne and Ashley Vincent and Iris, Charlie and Carrie Smith.

He loved everything outdoors: hunting, fishing, camping, and family vacations to Colorado. Mike was a member of the Oak Cliff Lions Club for 26 years, served as president of the club in 2011-12, and received numerous awards for his dedication to community service. Having a grandson born with vision problems, Mike felt strongly about organizing the Vision Clinic at North Dallas Shared Ministries and proudly served on the board of the Lions Sight and Tissue Foundation. He also volunteered for 35 years at the State Fair of Texas Parade driving floats and providing contagious laughter.

Mike was devoted to his wife, Bobbie, and his greatest source of pride and joy was being the father of two successful adult children and a grandfather five times over. Mike will be missed by all. Those who knew him will carry close to their hearts his many lessons, laughs, inspirations, and memories.

Memorial donations can be made to Lion Sight and Tissue Foundation, P.O. Box 191121 Dallas, Tx, 75219 or at LSTF.org. They can also be made to The Kessler School at thekesslerschool.com.

Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 13, from 6-8 PM at Jeter and Son Funeral Home, 4830 West Illinois Ave, Dallas. A celebration of Mike’s life will take place on Thursday, December 14 at 1:00 PM at Kessler Park United Methodist Church, 1215 Turner Ave, Dallas.
