Jimmie Lee Brown
January 25, 1946 - January 8, 2018

Jimmie Lee Brown
1946 - 2018
Jimmie Lee Brown, 71, of Walla Walla died peacefully at home on January 8, 2018
after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was born January 25, 1946 to Gerald E. and Margie Brown in San Antonio, Texas. Jimmie was in an Army family and moved several times throughout his youth. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Landscape Architecture.
He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation from 1969-1970, when he
accepted a job with the Galveston District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In
1972, the wide-open spaces of the West called, and he moved to the Corps Walla Walla District, where he would spend the rest of his career. His move was done in the days before he had many possessions, so he loaded up his old car and drove from Texas to Walla Walla during a nationwide snowstorm. He traveled about 2100 miles, almost all with the tires chained up and temperatures in the teens. Jimmie spent many years as an Outdoor Recreation Planner managing the Corps recreation and parks. Later in his career he became an Environmental Compliance Coordinator where he assisted in developing a program for the Corps to bring the hundreds of offices and projects nationwide into compliance with all environmental, safety, and natural resource laws and regulations. He retired in 2005, after 35 years of Federal service.
Two hearts were healed when Jimmie married Kris McNeill. They had two daughters and enjoyed 32 years of marriage and family life. Many happy years were spent living in the Blue Mountains, off Mill Creek Rd. They eventually moved closer to town when the girls began driving, and to pursue the dream of building a new home. Jimmie was an outgoing guy who loved his family, friends and country. He was a great husband and father and relished those roles. His family enjoyed many fun road trips to Texas, which included stops at Sea World, Schlitterbahn, and famous landmarks. He could build or fix just about anything, (including a cabin on Black Snake), and would often help his friends with their home projects.
Jimmie was an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting over most of SE Washington,
but his real love was waterfowl hunting. He was the founding father of the local Ducks Unlimited chapter, serving as the first chairman. He stayed active on the local committee for 30 years, while also serving on the State committee. He was also a longtime volunteer on the board of the Walla Walla Federal Credit Union, serving as Chairman of the Board for 17 years,
Jimmie is survived by his wife Kris, at home, two daughters, Amanda (Salt Lake City)
and Audrey (Los Angeles), one son, Brandon Daugherty (Suzi) (Indiana), brothers-inlaw Ted Hanson, John McNeill (Rita) of Walla Walla, sister-in-law Becky Brown (TX), niece Rebecca Beth Bonini (UK), nephew Colonel Robert Bradley Brown (TX) , and uncle and aunt Charles M. & Jean Brown (TX). He was preceded in death by his
parents, and his brother Gerald M. Brown. A celebration of his life will be held this
Spring to allow his many friends across the Northwest to attend. An online memorial can be seen at www.mountainview-colonialdewitt.com. Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics, WW Community Hospice, or the charity of your choice
