James Carter Alvis
November 11, 1938 - January 21, 2018

James Carter Alvis, passed away on January 21, 2018, in Austin, Texas. He was born on November 11, 1938, in Jasper, Texas, and grew up in Baytown, Texas.

Jim was a member of the Corps during his time at Texas A&M, Class of 1960, a lifelong Aggie, and after graduating served in the US Army for two years. He worked at Forrest and Cotton, then for over thirty years at PSP (Page Sutherland Page) as a Civil Engineer.

Jim loved the outdoors, and to travel, he was a hunter, fisherman, and an avid tennis player. He loved his time with the Onion Creek Tennis Buddies and the GOOFS. He was a loving husband and father, and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for fourteen years.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sue Beth Lain Alvis; sons, Andy of Lake Travis, and Paul and wife Gina, of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren, Madison, Blake, Tanner, Emily, and Olivia; brother Joel Alvis and wife Diane, of Spring, Texas; nephew Dr. Jeff Alvis; niece Sara Daly; and a host of other loving family and friends.

A Memorial Service honoring Jim will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 3701 W. Slaughter Lane, Austin, Texas 78749. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SafePlace or a charity of your choice.
