Carl Frederick Scudder

September 18, 1929 - December 25, 2017
Born in Dallas, Texas
Resided in Wimberley, Texas

Carl Frederick Scudder Jr. was born in Dallas Texas to Carl Frederick Scudder and Adelia O’Meara Scudder on September 18, 1929. Shortly after Carl’s birth his parents moved to the tiny village of Wimberley Texas. Carl attended elementary school in Wimberley and graduated high school from San Marcos High School in 1947. Following graduation, Carl attended Texas A & M in College Station, graduating in the class of ’51.

Carl followed his college education by serving four years in the Army Security Agency during the Korean War. He maintained close friendships with the men he served with during these years and attended as many reunions as was possible.

Upon completion of his service in the ASA, Carl went to work for the Best Foods Corporation which offered him the opportunity to live and work in a variety of cities such as Houston Texas, New Orleans Louisiana, Atlanta Georgia and Chicago Illinois. Texas was his home though, so when an opportunity presented itself to return to his native state, Carl jumped right in! At first he went to work with a home builder in Austin Texas and built upon that experience with work in the real estate industry. He returned to Wimberley in 1977 built a family operated custom home building company and immediately became involved in many of the village’s community groups.

Carl served many years as president of the Wimberley Lion’s Club, Director of Market Days and was awarded “Lion of the Year”. Carl served on the boards of the Wimberley Chamber of Commerce, the Wimberley Institute of Culture and was a Charter member of Chapel in the Hills. For many years he served as the Fire Commissioner for the Wimberley Volunteer Fire Department taking great pride in being part of such a dedicated team of individuals.

Carl’s experience of growing up in Wimberley from a tiny quiet village to the community it is today helped to inform and maintain the unique qualities of life along the Blanco for many new to the village. His great sense of humor, his strong commitment to family and community and his deep love for all that is Texas A & M were qualities that made all who knew him feel at home and welcome in his life.
In 1990, Carl married the love of his life, Janet. They enjoyed 27 happy years of marriage, frequently traveling in their RV with friends and family. Over their 27 years they visited 48 states, Mexico and Canada. Regardless of where their travels may take them, Carl never missed an Aggie game or an opportunity to celebrate with his children and grandchildren the many special events in their lives. Summers on the creek were cherished by Carl as he watched over his family year after year and generation after generation.

Carl passed away on December 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Adelia, his daughter Maura Lynn Scudder Donnelly, and by brother William Jennings Scudder. He is survived by his wife Janet, his sons Rick and wife Tracy Scudder, Chris and Lynn Scudder, daughter Lori and husband Roger Graham, his son in law, Tim Donnelly, his grandchildren Kristen Scudder and husband Chris Lamb, Amanda Scudder, Jennifer Donnelly, Carla Scudder, Barron Scudder, Meaghan Donnelly, Lauren Graham, Presslee Leidecker, Caiti Stewart and husband Bobby, Kari Graham and great grandchildren Delilah Stewart, Rankin Hilleman and his beloved dog Ginger.

He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
