Robert Loyd Haney
February 27, 1924 - December 20, 2017

Robert Loyd Haney, Jr., age 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, in Fayetteville. He was born on February 27, 1924, in Southbend, Texas, to Robert Loyd, Sr., and Grace Pearl Parks Haney. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Mary Breen Haney; his daughter, Michaele Mead; and his two siblings.

Robert served in the United States Army while fighting in WWII. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Thanks to the GI Bill, Bob left the military to obtain not only the first college degree of anyone in his family, but was also the first recipient of a degree in Agricultural Journalism from Texas A&M University. Following graduation, Bob went to work for the Progressive Farmer Magazine eventually becoming Managing Editor. Later, Bob worked for many years as a science writer for Texas A&M Agricultural Experiment Station producing a weekly column named “The Scientists Tell Me”. Before retirement, Bob authored a 100 year history of the Experiment Station entitled, “Milestones”. He loved animals and adopted numerous stray dogs and cats throughout his life.

He is survived by his three children, Ian Haney and wife Jody of Discovery Bay, California, Bryn Bennett and husband Richard of Lenexa, Kansas, and Rod Haney and wife Vivi of Springdale; his eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
