Edward Pillar Miles Jr.(1929 - 2017)
Edward Pillar Miles Jr. was born on October 1, 1929 in San Antonio, TX and was taken home by his Lord and Savior on December 24, 2017 in Dallas, TX at the age of 88. Ed was the only child of Edward Sr. and Clarice "Kisi" Johnson Miles. He grew up in Waxahachie, TX, then earned a BS at Texas A & M where he was privileged to serve in the Drum and Bugle Corps, as a Major in the Corps of Cadets, and also as a Ross Volunteer. He furthered his education with an Adv. Mgt Certificate from the University of Chicago. Ed also served his country as First Lieutenant in the US Air Force in the far east during the Korean War. Ed had a distinguished corporate career. He held several positions at Texas Instruments in Dallas, was the Director of Operations of TI France in Nice, and General Manager of TI Sherman, TX. Following his years at TI, Ed worked at Resalab, Inc as EVP, Teccor Electronics as President, Abbott Laboratories as manager of Operations, and as a self employed consultant. Ed married Tanya Smith Herring Miles in 1977. They enjoyed 40 years together. During these years, he served as Highlands North Home Owners president in 1986. They spent many years with a much beloved community of friends at Lake Texoma who shared their love for boating. Ed and Tanya have also been active members of Prestonwood Baptist Church since 1983, where he has served as a New Member Sponsor, Usher, Banner Ministry, Tape Ministry, and Greeter at Power Lunches. In addition to his wife Tanya, he was loved by daughters Vicki Miles Morgan and husband Richard Morgan, Lisa Miles Bate and husband Richard Bate, and stepdaughter Cheryl Herring Heartwell and husband Tommy Heartwell. He was "Grandaddy" or "Papa EP" to Jennifer Morgan Benander, Jeff Morgan, Sarah Bate Parr, Miles Bate, and Mason Heartwell, their spouses and seven great grandchildren. While his accomplishments in the business world were noteworthy, his family and friends remember Ed for his kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and unconditional love. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 3rd at Prestonwood Baptist Church - Faith Chapel in Plano, 6801 W. Park Blvd, Plano, TX 75093. Neal Jeffrey will officiate.
