Robert Pry
Robert Henry Pry of Great Falls, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. at the age 88. He was born in 1923 in Dormont, Pennsylvania to the late William Henry Pry and Marie Freeman Pry.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Claude Freyss Pry, his grandson Robert A. Pry, 2 brothers William and Jack, and 2 sisters Patricia and Grace. He possessed an insatiable curiosity and passion for learning that he shared with friends and peers and passed on to his surviving children, Phillip Pry of Austin, TX, Terry Pry of Auckland, NZ, Patricia Skinner of Campbell, CA, Pamela Miller of Geneva CH and David Pry of Fairfield, CT. His passing is also mourned by his grandchildren Courtney Hanson, Kelley Pry, Kierstin Pry, Mary Garnes, Colton Skinner and his great grandson Benjamin Garnes and by the Freyss families of France and the Pry families of Texas. Robert served in the U.S. Army during which time he attended Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and the University of Manchester (UK) and served in the Signal Corps. in France during WWII where he met his wife of 63 years.
Following the war he attended Rice University, obtaining an MA/PhD in Physics. In 1951 he joined General Electric in Niskayuna, NY as a Research Physicist in Metallurgy & Ceramics becoming Manager of Materials Science & Engineering. He holds numerous patents for his work during this period. He worked tirelessly to promote and further scientific research & development as Vice President R&D, Combustion Engineering (Stamford, CT), Vice Chairman, Technology and Executive Vice President, R&D, Gould Inc. (Rolling Meadows, Ill.). He was also the Founding President of the Center for Innovative Technology (Sterling VA), Adjunct Professor at M.I.T (Boston, MA) and Director of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (Laxenberg, AU).
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:00 am at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Robert's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001 (http://www.alzfdn.org/ContributetoAFA/makeadonation.html).
