Floyd Frank Humphries was born on May 17, 1927 in Long Beach, California. After suffering for several years with severe dementia, Floyd peacefully passed away on November 14, 2017 in Dallas, Texas.

Floyd is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Gloria Don Russell Humphries; by his daughters, Aletha Susan (Alan) Morden and Lauren (Mark) Whitworth; by his grandchildren, Caitlyn Leilani Leiataua, Chelsea Morden, Evan Morden, and Claire Elyse Whitworth; and, by his twin brother, Lloyd (Tommie) Humphries and his sister, Doris (Ron) Nielson.

Floyd entered Crozier Technical High School in Dallas at the age of 12, graduating four years later. At the age of 16, he entered Texas A&M University in College Station. Just prior to his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the USS New Jersey and was stationed in San Diego, in Pearl Harbor, and in Subic Bay, Philippines. After the end of World War II, Floyd returned to Aggieland, graduating from A&M’s School of Architecture in January 1950.

Floyd worked as a successful architect his entire adult life, co-owning his own architectural firm—West+Humphries Architects?until 1989 when he retired. Some of his many designs around Dallas include: Lovers Lane Methodist Church, SMU’s Olympic swimming pool, Wadley Blood Bank, University Park Methodist Church, Ellis Chapel at Park Cities Baptist Church, Addison’s State Bank Building, Restland Cemetery Chapel, and many more. Floyd was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many church callings, including youth leader, stake missionary, family history coordinator, Bishopric counselor, executive secretary, and home teacher to name but a few. He even served on the High Council and as Bishop at the same time! He served for many years as the Church’s local architect on several church buildings in the North Texas region, but one of his most rewarding life experiences was serving as the local architect on the Dallas Texas LDS Temple and as a sealer and ordinance worker in that temple for over 25 years.

Floyd’s passions included: architecture; church service; spending weekends at the lake boating, fishing, and skiing; tinkering on his computers; family camping trips; traveling in the RV; scuba diving; walking his schnauzers; and, spending time with family.
