John L. Scott, DVM, 72 of League City passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
Dr. Scott was born May 1, 1945 in Pasadena, California, the son of John Emory Scott and Lois Lamb Scott. John Lee spent his childhood in Bremond, TX and graduated Bremond High School in 1963, earning All-District honors in football in 1961 and 1962. He attended Sam Houston State College from 1963 to 1966, where the luckiest event of his life occurred, when he met Cheryl Lynn Elgin. John and Cheryl were married in 1967. John graduated from Texas A & M University College of Veterinary Medicine with Honors in 1969. From 1969 to 1971 John served as a captain in the United States Army Veterinary Corps.
From 1971 until 1982 he was a partner at Austin-Scott Veterinary Clinic in Texas City. And from 1983 until 2002, he operated Scott Veterinary Clinic in Texas City. From 2002 until recently he worked as a relief veterinarian
Dr. Scott was involved with Texas Veterinary Medication Association: Ethics and Grievance Committee, TVMA/College of Veterinary Medicine Liaison Committee, TVMA Board of Directors, Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation BOD. He was the chairman of BOD of Animal Emergency Clinic Southeast, Secretary of Galveston County VMA.
Dr. Scott was a former member of the Texas City Jaycee and Texas City Rotary Club and a Boy Scout Explorer Post Leader. John was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in UM Army and a Christian Veterinary Mission trip to Haiti.
John loved life and travel and was a man of many hobbies including SCUBA diving, fishing, racquetball, attending any and all grandchildren’s activities and held a private pilots license to name a few.
John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cheryl Lynn Scott; two daughters and sons-in-law Shelly Scott Michna and Marcus; Sherry Lynn Pistone and Frank, all of League City; sister Carol Kasowski and her husband David of Bremond, Texas; brother-in-law Mike Elgin and wife Nancy; five grandchildren Madison Leigh Michna, Matthew Scott Michna, Samantha Celeia Pistone, Emma Lynn Pistone and Vincent John Pistone and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM and Memorial Services at 3:00 PM, Saturday, November 11, 2017, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 8200 25th Ave North, Texas City, Texas, with Pastor Stephanie Hughes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church for UM Army Scholarships or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas
