Don Ray Simpson
January 1, 1941 - November 4, 2017
Don R. Simpson, 76 of Waxahachie, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 in DeSoto surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 1, 1941 in McKinney, Texas.
Don graduated from Ennis High School in 1959. He attended Texas A&M University where he graduated on January 18, 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and a minor in Math. Don worked for Texas Power & Light for 39 years. Don enjoyed golf, hunting,
fishing, skeet and trap shooting, and spending time with his four daughters and grandchildren. Don was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waxahachie where Don was an active participant of the Higher Focus Bible Class. He was a member of Austin’s Old 300.
Don spent his years of retirement serving Meals on Wheels with his beloved dog, Miss Wiggles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Grace Elizabeth Simpson; his daughters, Allison Whitlock of Trophy Club, Texas, Amy Simpson of Roanoke, Texas, Amanda Winn and her husband, Dave Winn of Vernon, Texas and Emily Sharp and her husband, Aaron Sharp
of Fairfax, Virginia; his mother, Oleta Simpson of Ennis, Texas; his sister, Ann Nicks and her husband, Roy of Old Hickory, TN; and Lou Vavra of Ennis, Texas; his grandchildren, Sarah Kay Whitlock, Ella Grace Winn, Lanie Elizabeth Winn and Ashton Ray Sharp;
his mother and father-in-law, Bill and Lily Jo Abston of Rockwall, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dave and Kathryn Abston of Rockwall, Texas; also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Shirley Thomas Simpson and by his brother-in-law, Bill Vavra.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Waxahachie. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or First Baptist Church Choir Ministry.
