Marc D Luther

Marc Douglas Luther came into this world at God’s Will May 1, 1943 and left this world in the light with Jesus our Lord, November 6, 2017.
A memorial service to honor Marc’s life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 4221 Boonville Rd. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11AM with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
Marc was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Irwin and Edna (Rollins) Luther. He spent his young years in Gruver, TX, then in Dumas, TX where he graduated high school in 1961. He moved back to Ft. Worth where he worked at North Texas Steel while studying engineering at UT Arlington.
On New Year’s Eve, 1964, Marc met Irene and in March of 1965 they became husband and wife. Their marriage would last for over 52 years. On March 11, 1966, Marc was drafted into the US Army. After basic training, he went to AIT then OCS in Ft. Belvoir, VA, graduating top 4 in his class. Marc’s first duty station was Ft. Carson, Colorado where his daughter Jenni was born in 1967. He attended flight school in Ft. Walters, Texas and was the first person to fly solo in his class. He finished training at Ft. Rucker, Alabama where he graduated in the top 5% of his class.
Marc was sent to Vietnam as an engineer aviator, flying Hueys from February 1969 to February 1970, during this time Marc received the Distinguished Flying Cross for a risky but successful medical evacuation. In 1971, while stationed at Ft Bragg, NC his son, Greg was born. After being honorably discharged in August of 1973, Marc returned to his home state of Texas to raise his family.
Marc and Irene opened Amity, a thriving furniture restoration company in Bryan to supplement family income while Marc attended TAMU. The success of the business made it hard for Marc to attend class full time, so the decision was made to drop out of A&M.
Amity served the BCS area and those cities far beyond for 40 years. Marc was affectionately known as the “furniture doctor”, he always felt privileged to be called upon to restore priceless family heirlooms for so many local residents, as well as pieces at the State Capitol and TAMU.
Marc was a longtime member of the Bethel Lutheran Church as an active lay reader and usher, he was also an avid attendee of Sunday school and the men’s bible study. His friendships with the members of the congregation, Pastor Neil Bockleman, and Randy Bard were greatly cherished.
Marc is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Ron Luther, sister; Shirley Fabian, and his in-laws; Ellen and George Kurronen.
Marc is survived by his loving wife Irene, daughter; Jenni Ellen Rogers, son: Marc “Greg” and wife Michele, grandchildren; Mitzi Ellen and husband Travis Bullard, Marc “Auston” and wife Carly Luther, Gregory Luther, Ballie Luther, Mike Ashley and Marquel Ashley, great-grandchildren; Hank Bullard, Merle Bullard and Olivia Luther, brother-in-law’s; Jussi and wife Ann Kurronen, David and wife Marci Kurronen, Peter and wife Bobbi Kurronen, sister-in law; Ingrid and husband Mark Eckert.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bethel Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Humane Society.
