January 25, 1916 - January 13, 2007
Allen V. Sheppard, age 90, of Temple died Saturday, January 13, 2007 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 17, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Minister James LeFan officiating. Burial will be at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Sheppard was born January 25, 1916 in the Willow Point community in Wise County to Ozro and Daisy Allen Sheppard. He was a graduate of Jacksboro High School and graduated from Texas A & M in 1939. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Waltina Boyd on September 12, 1942 in Wichita Falls. He was employed as a district conservationist-field representative for the USDA for 34 years and the State of Texas for 10 years retiring on August 31, 1983.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and served nine years as an elder of the Colorado City Church of Christ. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Volunteer Fire Dept. and Kiwanis Club for eight years where he had seven years of perfect attendance. He served as president of the school board of trustees in Robert Lee, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Martha Davis and husband, Mel of Troy and Melinda Sheppard Yeager of Temple, three grandchildren, Mindy Davis, Michael Davis and Lindsay Holmes, three great grandchildren, Lacy Marie Davis, Cada Lei Davis and Donovan Kahlil Holmes and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Western Hills Church of Christ, 210 N. General Bruce Dr., Temple, TX 76504.
