Memorial service to be held at 1:30pm, Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 N Braeswood, Houston, 77096.

Milton G Gugenheim, Jr., who dedicated himself to his community and his country, passed away on September 14, 2017 at age 94.

His engineering career was with United Gas, Shell Chemical, Petro-Tex, Bechtel Corporation, and S&B Engineering. Milton, a PE, was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Instrument Society of America.

But he was proudest of his activities in Boy Scouts, as an Eagle Scout, Webelo leader, Scoutmaster, and Explorer Advisor. He received Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, and was awarded the Silver Beaver.

Milton also was an umpire for Meyerland Little League. Duck hunting and saltwater fishing were a passion. Upon retirement, he joined AARP Tax Aide and was a local coordinator for 24 years. AARP honored him as a Foundation Fellow.

In service to America, Milton was active in the Naval Research Reserve (plank owner) and retired as a commander. During World War II, he was stationed in Italy in Army ordnance, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.

Milton was born March 29, 1923 in San Antonio to Camille G. Bernheim and Milton G Gugenheim. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1940 and then entered Texas A&M. In March 1942, Milton joined the Army Enlisted Reserve Corps. He was called to active duty in March 1943, returning to A&M after the war to earn a bachelor of science in chemical engineering.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Aileen S. Gugenheim; children Marcie Gugenheim (Colin Seymour), Lynne Gugenheim (Jeff Shanken), and Brad Gugenheim; and grandson Kevin A. Shanken; and sister-in-law Renee Gugenheim. He was predeceased by his brother, Alan.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 N. Braeswood, Houston.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Boy Scouts or another youth organization.
