Penny Halstead
December 19, 1955 - September 1, 2017

Penny Casey Halstead of Rowlett, TX passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on September 1, 2017. She was born in Houston, TX to Robert L. Casey, Jr. and Betty Jo Ragan Casey on December 19, 1955. Penny was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. For the past 15 years she worked as a wild bird rehabilitator spending countless, exhausting hours rescuing and caring for injured birds. She loved raptors and held a special joy when caring for owls, hawks and eagles. Penny was a valued member of the Purple Martin community. She was always willing to share her knowledge and expertise, especially to help save baby birds. Penny had many hobbies. She was well known for her creativity in making beautiful handmade jewelry, one of kind quilts and was an avid photographer.

Penny is survived by brother Robert Casey and his wife Kathleen, sisters Patricia Walter and husband Brett, Kimberly Credeur and husband Joseph, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside memorial service will be held in Houston, TX at a future date after cremation. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas PL, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family wishes to extend sincerest thanks to Texas Oncology, Dr. Ahmer Younas, RN Leette Duran, RN Pam Stroud and the entire team who cared for Penny. To Sherry Taylor and Julie Springfield who gave unconditional love and support throughout Penny's illness.
