Charlie passed away peacefully in Houston, TX on August 26, 2017. Below are a few brief words about Paw-Paw and a link to his obituary page.

Today we celebrate the life my grandfather, Charles Miller McKim, Jr.
He was born in Koonce, Texas on December 18, 1920. Though his family moved to Houston just 4 years later, he remained very proud of his East Texas roots.
He graduated from Milby High School in 1939, and enrolled at Texas A&M University. There he studied Aeronautical Engineering until he left College Station in December 1941 to enlist in the Army.
During World War II he served as a B-25 pilot in the Army Air Corps, flying 164 combat, supply and humanitarian missions in China, Burma and India.
After the war he returned to Houston and enrolled at The University of Houston where he studied Architecture. He graduated in 1947 in the first class of UH Architecture graduates - there were only 2 in his class.
In 1946 he married Alice Baker - my Grandma. They were together for 55 years, until her passing in May of 2001. Together they had 3 daughters, 7 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren... so far.
As an architect he designed everything from homes to office and industrial building, schools, banks, churches and even golf courses. He worked for Welcome Wilson Sr. to design the original homes for the Jamaica Beach development in Galveston - his own being the first to be built. He also designed Parker Elementary School in Meyerland (where I went to Kindergarten) and St. John’s Presbyterian Church (which he attended with his family).
Throughout his life he was an avid collector, most notably of American western artifacts and memorabilia. He served for many years as President of The Houston Gun Collectors Association.
He was also an outdoors man who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and did both to some degree until at least the age of 90, along with his weekly golf and poker games.
He was a role model and inspiration- and a character, and seemed to leave a positive impression on all who met him.
Paw Paw passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 26, to be beside his wife, watching over their family and keeping us all safe during Hurricane Harvey.
