Richard Holt “Rich” / ”Dick” McGlaun, 82, preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Evelyn (nee Bertermann), his sister, Elisabeth Scott (nee McGlaun), his grandmother, Pearl Bertermann (nee Holt), and aunts, Helen Anne and Dorothy Bertermann. Survived by his sister, Helen Anne Mikel (nee McGlaun), and her husband, Frank, his beloved niece, advocate, and best friend, Alexandra Cunningham (nee Scott), and her husband, Brian, two cherished great nephews, Max and Ben Cunningham, and niece, Pamela Jones (nee Mikel), and her husband, Richard. Rich grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from Withrow High School. He went on to graduate from Texas A & M in the 1950’s. He served with honor in the Vietnam War earning three medals for distinguished service. After leaving the Army as a Major, he worked for Bechtal Construction Company. He also became a member of the Syrian Shrine. Rich retired to Hilton Head Island, SC with his beloved English Springer Spaniels, “Dudley” and “Little Boy”. While in South Carolina, he actively officiated and umpired Little League games. In 2004, Rich was honored to be an official in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. He continued to serve his country as a dedicated poll worker until 2008. Rich spent the last eight years in Cincinnati under the protective and loving watch of his niece, Alex, for whom he was a father figure. He died September 1, 2017. A memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Hyde Park, at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 16th. A reception will be held at the Mikel residence in Hyde Park following the service. Arrangements for the memorial service and burial have been made through the Rohde Funeral Home in Mt. Lookout. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church in Hyde Park.
