Edwin Myron Pettigrew Sr.
September 20, 1925 - April 15, 2010

Edwin Myron Pettigrew, Sr., was born in the small rural farming community of Poplar Grove, Arkansas and was one of four children born to Dee and Frankie Hall Pettigrew. After the flood in 1927, the Pettigrew family moved to Clarendon to make their home. He graduated from Clarendon High School and continued his education at Texas A & M at College Station, Texas. Before he could graduate from college "Uncle Sam" called Edwin to serve in the United States Navy during W. W. II. At the end of the war, Edwin returned to Texas A & M, earning a degree in Agriculture. On November 9, 1952, at the Presbyterian Church in Forrest City, Edwin married the love of his life, Helene McCrary. They were blessed with two children, Ed Jr. and Jan. Edwin spent his life serving God, his family, his country, and his community. He farmed in Monroe and St. Francis counties, owned and operated a Manufactured Home Sales and park north of Forrest City and land clearing business. He was an active member of the Clarendon Lions Club, the Pine Country Club, where he helped to build the golf course and was instrumental in building the Clarendon beach. Edwin was also an active member of the Clarendon First United Methodist Church where he taught the Men's Class and served on church committees. With a great love of the White River, Edwin enjoyed spending time on his houseboat and faithfully checked the papers each morning for the water levels. An avid golfer, he enjoyed attending the Danny Thomas Golf Tournament in Memphis with his son, Ed Jr. and was also a Razorback and Texas A & M Aggie fan. During his younger years he found pleasure in duck and deer hunting. Edwin was an outgoing and positive person who loved visiting with people. He was a loving husband and father, who was proud of both of his children. On Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Stuttgart, Arkansas, Edwin answered God's call and went home to be with the Lord at the age of 84. He will be remembered for his dedication, love, support and willingness to help others. Edwin is survived by his wife, Helene McCrary Pettigrew, son, Ed Pettigrew Jr., daughter, Jan Pettigrew, brother, Don Pettigrew Sr. and wife Celeste, sister, Frances Hall Fritzgerald, all of Clarendon, sister-in-law, Jackie Pettigrew of Watkinsville, GA and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, D.W. Pettigrew Jr. Graveside services were 2PM, Monday, April 19th at the Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon with Rev. Don Lewart officiating. Memorials may be given to the Clarendon First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 411, Clarendon, Ar 72029 or Shady Grove Cemetery, P. O. Box 194, Clarendon, AR 72029.
