Kameron Douglas Hutchins 1961-2017

KAMERON DOUGLAS HUTCHINS
Kameron Douglas Hutchins was born on November 3, 1961, in Conroe, Texas, to Dr. Melvin Goodrich Hutchins and Robbie Kathryn (Edwards) Hutchins. Kam was one of eight beautiful children of this union. He and his family are longtime residents of Conroe, where they unselfishly give of themselves to their community and church.
Kam passed away peacefully with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at his home in Conroe. Kam was 55 years old. He graduated from Conroe High School, where he played football for the Conroe Tigers and served as student body president, in 1981.Kam graduated from Texas A&M University in 1984 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. He went on to receive two master’s degrees in Educational Technology and Administration. Kam taught in Conroe ISD and made a huge, positive impact on the lives of many at-risk students and families in the community. From 1998 to 2002, Kam and his wife, Vickie, spent time teaching in Venezuela and Taiwan (Republic of China). He and the love of his life, Vickie, were married on January 2, 1988. They shared 30 wonderful years and had two beautiful children, Harrison and Hannah. Kam, being a strong city, county, and state conservative and political activist and supporter all his life, loved helping his college classmate, Todd Staples, in his Senate campaign. He also enjoyed working alongside his brother at “Exercise Defined” in Conroe, where they helped many individuals find health and fitness.
Kam was an intelligent, thoughtful, hardworking man with a love of knowledge, history, and words…but also a practical, down-to-earth man. He took great pride in stories about his family and heritage. Even as he was fighting cancer with more strength and courage and honesty than anyone can imagine, Kam often positively spoke about how he could make our world a better place. His love for the Lord and his family was strong.
Kam was preceded in death by his brother, Kyle, in 1977 and his father, Dr. Hutchins, in 1994. He is survived by his loving family: wife of 30 years, Vickie Ocker Hutchins, of Conroe and their two dear children, Harrison and Hannah Hutchins; mother, Robbie Hutchins, of Conroe; brothers and sisters, Ken Hutchins and wife, Brenda, of Conroe; Kathy Daniel and husband, Bob, of Conroe; Karen Roberts and husband, Mark, of Dallas; Keven Hutchins and wife, Rhonda, of West Virginia; Kelly Hutchins and wife, Lisa, of Conroe; and Karl Hutchins and wife, Sharon, of Conroe; uncle, Robert Hutchins, and wife, Pam; nieces and nephews, Leslie Newman, and husband, Tim; Clifton Roberts; Bronwen Roberts; Aubrey Hutchins; Stephanie Bess and husband, Matt; Ryan Hutchins and wife, Taylor; Mason Hutchins; Bay Hutchins; numerous other dear family members, and a host of caring friends.
Kam would like to send a heartfelt thanks to these special people, caregivers, and organizations who helped care for him physically and spiritually: Dr. Bill Quinn, his wife, and staff; Dr. Jeremy Laningham and staff; the team of nurses at Millennium Oncology; caregivers at Heart to Heart Hospice; Dr. Jean Stewart and her team of special angels; all of his Conroe Tiger teammates; Roger Holtkamp and family; JoAnn Beken; Hauke High School faculty;
Gale Drummond; Angels in Action(Coldspring); Marianne Walters; Kam’sKrusaders (Melanie Schoettle and Nathan Arrazate); Duke Coon; Todd Staples; Keith Cartwright; and Bill Chilcoat. He would also like to thank his loving church family and Sunday school class friends (Pairs and Spares and New Passages) at First United Methodist Church of Conroe and his work partners: brother, Ken Hutchins, Steve Kasmiersky, Missy Fletcher, Marilyn Moore, and Judy Robert for keeping his spirits high. Last, but not least, a loving thanks to his whole family for all their love and support and especially to Vickie, Mark, Karl, Kathy, Bob, and Kelly for their help with his care and doctor visits.

A Celebration of Kam’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m.on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Conroe with the Rev. Mary Tumulty officiating.
