Lehman E. Newton Jr.
October 24, 1922 - August 11, 2017

Lehman E. Newton, Jr., age 94, of Midland and San Angelo, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017.

Lehman was born October 24, 1922, in Rotan, Texas, to Lehman E. and Mabel Essie Newton. He graduated from Texas A & M with a degree in Chemical Engineering in January, 1943. He was commissioned into the United States Army, January 31, 1943, and served until October 5, 1946. He served as a Captain in Chemical Warfare Service during World War II, serving both stateside and in the Pacific, China-Burma-India, and European Theaters.
Lehman married Frances McCombs September 7, 1947, in Rotan, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, his parents, and a sister, Patsy Cox.

Lehman is survived by his children, Frances and Larry Stapp, Sue and Steve Van Hoozer, Newt and Banay Newton, and Bob and Kim Newton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stacey and J.C. Cornett, Brandy and Jim Tirey, Emily and Jason Bush, Phillip and Sara Newton, Adam Newton, Maggie Newton, Bradley and Tara Newton, Kevin and Paige Newton, and Jeffrey Newton; and by his great grandchildren, Addison and Jace Roberson, Andrew Cornett, Grayson, Sawyer, and Graham Tirey, Caleb and Leah Bush, Lainey and Annie Newton, and Lucy Newton.

A memorial service for Mr. Newton will be held at First United Methodist Church in the Glass Chapel on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., with the Reverend Tamara Strehli and the Reverend Melissa Schuller officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 300 N. Main St., Midland, Texas 79701, or to the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, 4522 College Hills Blvd, San Angelo, TX 76904, or a charity of your choice.
