Schemen Kohanski
June 28, 1965 - July 9, 2017

L. Schemen Kohanski has entered eternal peace after a 17-year struggle with cancer and its many complications. Though she was brave and courageous through the toughest times up until her last breath; she will be remembered for so much more than her battle with cancer. Schemen was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on June 28, 1965. She spent her early years in Olean, New York excelling at school and participating in several sports including diving and synchronized swimming. She moved with her family to Mexico City in the early 1980s where she graduated from Green Gates High School in 1983. Later that year, she moved to Spring, Texas with her family. She attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1989 with a degree in Construction Science and a minor in Spanish. She began working at Brown and Root immediately after graduating and was selected for their prestigious Engineer Development program. Shortly afterwards, she was chosen from the program to go overseas and work in Bahrain for over a year. She returned home after the beginning of the Gulf War. Schemen worked for Brown and Root for approximately 10 years and was part of the team that built Minute Maid Park. She later received her license for boiler tank inspection and began working for Kemper insurance. In 2001, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Surgery, radiation and chemotherapy followed. Because of the loving care of her mother and father, we were blessed with more than a decade of extra time than what was expected by her doctors.

Schemen will always be remembered as a dedicated, loving family member and loyal and honest friend. She was adventurous and courageous -- determined and willing to take on new challenges. She was a good listener and someone who could cheer up those around her. We will remember her at her most vibrant with a smile on her face.

Schemen is preceded in death by her father, Robert F. Kohanski. She is survived by her mother Maxine (Barnes) Kohanski; brothers and sisters, Sally Crandlemire and husband John, Paul Terek, Robert F. Kohanski Jr. and wife Vonda, Michael S. Kohanski MD and wife Nicole; 7 nieces and nephews, Zac, Sarah, Beckie, Jake, Taylor, Chelsea, and Lauren; several uncles and aunts; and her great aunt, Irene (Tyszka) Kennedy. She also leaves numerous extended family members and friends to cherish her memory.
Special Instructions/Comments: The Addison family and staff extend our heartfelt condolences to the Kohanski family in their time of loss.
