MARSHALL A Memorial Service to celebrate the life and memories of Dr. William Allen Boyd, 78, of Marshall will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, June 16, 2017 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home with Rev. James Duncan officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00am - 1:00pm also on Friday, at the funeral home. Dr. Boyd passed away June 10, 2017 in Burnet, Texas.
Surviving Dr. Boyd is his daughter, Pennie Sherrouse of Burnet, Texas; son, Kent Boyd of Woodlawn, Texas; brothers, Robert Boyd and Sidney Jo Boyd; sister, Dixie Jill; grandchildren, Monty Clark, Dustin Boyd, Cody Sherrouse, and Dana Boyd; great-grandchildren, Gracie Clark, Reagan Clark, and Gunnar Clark. Dr. Boyd is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
William Allen Boyd, Dr. Boyd as he was known to many, was born April 09, 1939 in Taylor, Texas to Allen and Elizabeth Boyd. Dr. Boyd was a 1957 graduate of Burnet High School, Burnet, Texas. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy. After an honorable discharge, Dr. Boyd began attending classes at Texas A&M University. In 1974, he graduated college with a PHD in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Boyd owned and operated a veterinary clinic in Porter, Texas for 25 - 30 years. He and his family would later move to Marshall where he ran Patchwork Veterinary Clinic and Kennels for more than 10 years. Dr. Boyd was well known here in Marshall not only for care and love for animals over the years, but also for his community service in the Marshall Lions Club, Marshall Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one daughter, Beverley Jean Boyd; two brothers, Jackie Boyd and Doug Boyd.
