Lawrence Ashburn Jr

Lawrence Ashburn Jr., of Richardson, TX went home to Heaven on January 3, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Ashburn, Sr. and Bernice Ashburn, and infant sister, Geraldine.
He was a loving Christian husband, father of 3, grandfather of 4 and great grandfather of 3 and brother. Larry’s rich legacy will live on through his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Elaine Rountree Ashburn. His son Lawrence Douglas Ashburn,
his wife Susan and granddaughter Elyse Nicole and her husband Paul Fain and great granddaughter, Loralei Ashburn Fain; son, Otis Keith Ashburn, his wife Rebecca and grandson, Joshua Keith Ashburn and his wife, Meagan, great grandson, Justin Keith; daughter
Sarah Catherine, her husband, Stuart Markussen, grandson Brandt Taylor Markussen and wife Meredith, great granddaughter Claire Olivia Markussen; granddaughter Kori Michelle Markussen; sister Mary Florence and husband George Hager and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ash's passions were his faith, family, sewing, baking and ice cream!
"Lawrence", "Larry", "Ash", "Jr." was born in Denison, TX on June 11, 1931. He attended North Dallas High School and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1952. He proudly served in the Army on active duty during the Korean War and served 13 years in the Reserve
ending his military career as a Major in the Army. After completing his service he returned to Dallas to work in the family business, "Ashburn's Ice Cream".
Larry served as the:
President of the Kiwanis Club in Garland
District Commissioner, Circle 10 Council, Boy Scouts of America, while living in the Dallas Area.
Sponsor of Spring Valley Athletic Association Baseball.
Created the Care Group for the Fellowship Bible Church in Plano for those residing in the Carrollton area.
He was a discussion leader for the Bible Study Fellowship in Dallas and Tyler. "Ash" loved studying the Bible and initiating discussion with others concerning his studies.
He served as President of the Sons of the American Revolution and started the Color Guard for the Tyler Chapter.
He retired from Pine Cove Christian Camp to become a full time "Papaw" to his 4 grandchildren.
As much as his family and friends miss his presence here on Earth, they rejoice greatly in his entrance into his eternal home with Jesus and know there was a great celebration at his arrival. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for your
participation in Lawrence’s celebration of life today.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 2:30 PM in Memorial Chapel.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
Memorial donations may be made to Happy Hills Farm, Granbury, TX, or Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Dallas, TX.
