Loyd HAMPTON(1930 - 2017)
HAMPTON, Dr. Loyd D. Dr. Loyd D Hampton died of natural causes at his ranch in Lampasas County on May 10. He loved Central Texas and his property is where he wanted to be more than anywhere else in the world. Loyd was born 8/23/30 in Santa Anna, TX to Wilbur
and Ella Hampton. He graduated from Austin High School in 1948, received a BS and MS in physics from UT, and PhD from Texas A&M. He worked his entire career at Applied Research Laboratories, UT from 1952 until he retired as Director in 1988. He was proud of
his work with one of the highlights being the year he and his family spent in New Zealand in 1969. Post retirement he fulfilled 2 life long dreams: living for a a year in Wales, AK on the Bering Strait maintaining a Naval post and watching the ocean freeze;
and circumnavigating the Southern Oceans on a container ship. He traveled widely, enjoyed literature, fine music and a good whiskey. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dr Nan Hampton, his daughter Lisa (Steve) and son, Don (Anne) and 2 grandchildren,
Eric and Justine. A celebration of his life will be held 3 to 5pm on Sunday 5/21 at UT Alumni Center, 2110 San Jacinto Boulevard, Austin. No flowers. Donations to Planned Parenthood or the ACLU support his values.
